Wars are quite devastating and World War I has been regarded as a humiliating time in which several million people died. The first world started on 28 July 1914 and it ended on 11 November 1918.
The assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand in Sarajevo on 28 June 1914 by Gavrilo Princip is taken as the immediate reason for the initiation of the war. The world divided itself into two different groups while they were competing against each other.
One alliance was known as Triple Entente which contained France, Russia, and Britain and the other one was Triple Alliance containing Germany, Austria-Hungary, and Italy. World War I was a movement which made significant changes in the political, social, cultural and economical in the whole wide world.
Reasons for World War I:
If we see the world during World War I, we will notice that imperialism was a common thing that existed between the countries present in Europe. All of them wanted to exert power in the colonies that they had over the world.
This thirst of power often made them fight against each other. Due to World War I we can actually fathom the strength of the competition that was brewing up between the countries.
Another key point is that countries often tried to take each other’s colonies through power. The Moroccan crisis of 1905 and 1911 is often seen as a cause of World War I.
As the imperialism increase, so did the need for establishing stronger armies. Each European country soared to make themselves the king when it came to having strong military powers.
Battle was being taught to the young men of the country and the countries also focused on making strong naval powers. By 1914, Germany had one of the best navies in the world containing over 100 warships.
It was obvious that Great Britain, as well as Russia, made themselves stronger in warfare which in turn led to the devastating war that we still remember till now.
Just like every other country wanted to have colonies, they were also selfish amongst themselves when it came to power and land. The countries had their own pride and they didn’t want to negotiate on any terms.
There were individual nationalistic groups in Austria-Hungary and Serbia who wanted to seek independence and it created regular uprisings among the people.
The leaders of the countries wanted to provide their power and so they included their colonies to fight for them. This spread the war as far as Asia and made in true ‘world war’ in every sense.
Political and military alliances are needed to survive as a country but it was also one of the main causes that caused the World War I. Countries were scared of each other and their alliances wanted to back them up.
So, as Austria-Hungary declared war on Serbia, Russia got involved as being in an alliance with Serbia. Naturally, it was followed by Germany, France, Britain, Belgium, and even Japan. Later, Italy and even the United States got into it.
These are a few of the reasons which are seen as the key points behind the World War I.
